Look at this bean!
Ouch!
A “bean” is a firm buildup of debris that can form in the little pocket (the urethral fossa) at the end of a gelding’s penis. Over time, smegma and dirt can collect and harden — creating a lump that’s definitely uncomfortable!
Most horses need a bit of sedation to get the job done properly (it’s a personal space, after all
).
A good clean can make a world of difference to comfort and attitude — no one likes trying to work with a bean in their jeans!
