The Dubbo & District Show Horse Association Inc (DDSHA) is a regional affiliate of the Show Horse Council of Australasia (SHCA) based in central-west New South Wales. It plays a key role in the show horse circuit for riders in and around Dubbo.
What the association is
- A local SHCA-affiliated club representing the Dubbo and Central West region
- Run by a volunteer committee (president, secretary, etc.)
- Provides a pathway from local competition → state → national level
What they do
- Host and run show horse competitions (hack days, championships, qualifiers)
- Organise major events like the NSW Country Show Horse Championships
- Support members with:
- Memberships
- Horse registrations (via SHCA)
- Competition eligibility
👉 Their events can include Grand National qualifying classes, making them important if you’re aiming for top-level competition.
Where they operate
Most events are held at venues like:
- Dubbo Showground
- The Orana Equestrian Centre within the showground precinct
This venue regularly hosts a wide range of equestrian competitions, including those run by DDSHA
Membership & contact
- Membership is required to compete under their banner
- Contact is typically through the association secretary (email/phone listed via SHCA)
- Meetings are usually held monthly (committee-run club)
Why they matter (in simple terms)
If you’re in NSW—especially Central West:
- DDSHA is one of the key qualifying pathways toward
→ State titles
→ Grand National Championships
They’re not just a local club—they’re part of the official ladder in the show horse system.
