Travel Day… Road To Sydney Royal

Today’s the day — we’re officially on our way to Sydney Royal!

After all the planning, preparation, and countdown posts, it feels a little surreal to finally be loading up and heading off. This moment has been such a long time coming.

This morning has been a mix of excitement and that quiet focus you get on travel day. Final checks, last-minute packing, making sure everything is ready… and still that little voice asking, have I forgotten something? I don’t think that ever goes away.

With two ponies, Gee and Angelo, a full horse float, the back of the ute and even the back seat packed, we’re still wondering if we’ve forgotten something!

Mel and I may have also done a little bit of shopping in the lead-up — from clothes to rugs, new tack, and everything in between. Seeing it all come together has been such a fun part of the journey.

We’ve put together a full show setup through Equestrian Style, with pieces from Earlwood Equine, Ippico, and Hampton and Harlow. The new logo, created by Flying Change Productions, has been embroidered onto everything by our amazing local team at Wear It — and it’s all come together so well.

It’s a long, long way ahead of us, but we’re both so pumped for the journey that the nerves have just melted away. Coffee in hand, it’s time to hit the road.

It’s pretty amazing that we can talk for nine hours straight without even thinking about turning the radio on!

The ponies have been absolute stars. We’ve taken them off the float twice to stretch, made sure they’ve had plenty of time to get their heads down and pick at some grass. They’ve drunk well, eaten plenty of hay, and even had a pee (or two), so overall they’ve taken it all in their stride — as Welsh ponies do.

There’s something really special about this part of the journey. The car and float packed, the road ahead, and knowing that everything we’ve been working towards is now right in front of us.

It’s not just about the competition now — it’s about the whole experience. A holiday, an adventure, and a dream we’re finally stepping into.

I’m feeling a mix of excitement, pride, and a few nerves (the good kind). But more than anything, I just feel incredibly grateful to be here and to have this opportunity.

Next stop… Sydney Royal.
Let the adventure begin ✨
