Make sure your horses have plenty of salt and electrolytes this week — they need it just as much as we do (maybe more!).
A racehorse can lose up to 10 litres of sweat in one session — and that’s not just water. Sweat contains vital salts, or electrolytes — sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, and calcium.
These minerals are the body’s electrical system
— they help:
Muscles contract and relax
Nerves fire correctly
Nutrients move into cells
Waste products move out
And most importantly — they keep your horse’s temperature regulated.
Without enough electrolytes, horses can develop problems like:
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and keep those horses glowing — not gasping!
